Oh man, do I wish I hadn't missed this. Glad to see so many 914s showed up. And several "first timers" too! Great photo's Zach and others! Someone mentioned starting a NoVA breakfast. I'm up for that!

It was really nice meeting everyone, and what a nice spread that Caroline and Alan put out! Definitely was nice being around all those 914s and reminded why I loved my old car as much as I still do. Despite bringing a tail dragger, everyone was real friendly. What a display of comraderie with the clutch and tranny rebuild. Great times and look forward to keeping in touch with new and old 914 friends.

Just to add my appreciative THANKS to Carol & Alan for hosting the event. Ate great food, drank good beer, and even got a little dirty with Dr. Evil. It would not be a learning experience with out that. And most of all was meeting everyone. You are all class A people who continue to teach me more and more everytime my car does not start. This was my first event and can't wait for the next one. Maybe we should not wait and plan some sort of get together in the spring! As well, thank you to Kerry for the hard work he did to make this happen and be a success!!!

My hat goes off to Dr. Evil. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smiley_notworthy.gif) Every time I have seen him, he has been willing to get under a car and drop a tranny, or to take one apart. Saturday night, he was looking a lot like Grasshopper did that day at Matt's house. If he works half as hard for his patients, they'll be in good hands.
Somebody (maybe Dr. Evil?) suggested a 914 lunch at Chubby's BBQ. It's on US 15 just south of the Mason-Dixon Line in Emmitsburg, Md. I can vouch for the quality of the food there, and the company kinda speaks for itself. |

I was wondering what happened to you, Matt. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hijacked.gif) It was a case of domestic tranquility winning over 914world.com. The kids had two soccer games with team photo day thrown in between - topped with tired wife after a week long management seminar. I pouted all afternoon and evening but it didn't make me feel any better about missing the event. Agree on the BBQ idea. I want to do a foliage drive down the skyline drive - should start another thread for that idea. |

Thats not all that far from me at all, then the roads getting there are great 914 roads (at least for me comming from York down the back roads). Zach |

Perhaps a few more northern events would be cool too. I know one of the guys i work with lives up in i think lancaster PA, goes there whenever we get a day off. Shouldn't there be plenty of happy roads up there?

Deals Gap is far.
There are lots of good curvey roads all around the MD / PA line. There are also several parks where a good get together could take place. Lake Redman in PA and Patapsco State Park near Baltimore would both have ample parking and covered pavilions. Zach |

My antique insurance limits me to a 250 mile radius from the house.

Got antique tags but have regular insurance; 200$ every six months. If they ask any questions, I would say it was trailered to a local friends house for a local club car show to keep the milage low. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I've heard good things about Deal's Gap, but now everybody seems to know about it. (It's been written up in Road & Track, among other places.)
IMO the problem with Skyline Drive, at least for people who like to drive their cars, is that you always get stuck behind some big frickin' RV going 25 mph. I haven't done Skyline in at least 10 years; I hit the bypays of Pennsyltucky instead. I know some nice curvy roads within an hour of Hagerstown. I would suggest Old Forge Road out of Rouzerville, up to Mont Alto, or possibly a few nice ones out near McConnellsburg. |
